Ballet class outfit 1/9/14

leotard: Capezio Bra-tek, black
wrap sweater: Gaynor Minden silk, black
tights: Danskin footed, ballet pink, review here, affiliate link to catalog here
leggings: Eurotard, ankle length, black
skirt: black chiffon circle wrap skirt that I made, sort of a tutorial post here
legwarmers: I made these from an old black cashmere sweater, tutorial post here
slippers: Sansha Nijinsky, ballet pink

I don’t wear this skirt very often because it flares right out from the waist and since my waist is not super tiny I usually feel, just, not awesome in this skirt. Like, it embiggens.
On a woman with a waist that really nips in, however, I think it would look A-Mazing.
But anyway, since it was totally chilly out (omgSouthern California, like in the mid-fifties, brrrr!) I wore it with a wrap sweater, and the way the sweater wrapped in and the skirt flared out suddenly gave me that hour-glass look I’ve always pined for.
Smirnoff was a fan of this look too, called it regulation style, and said Margot Fonteyn always dressed this way, plus a little white belt. And then he gave me lots of extra corrections since I was dressed so correctly.

    It’s a perfectly cromulent word.

  2. Ah it’s so nice to start the day thinking of ballet, looking at nice drawings and reading AB’s comments about it all! :)
I bet you were very classy in that outfit… it’s so hot here that I can’t even look at leg warmers these days!

    Haha love it!

I love winter class so much more, when I can pile on layer after layer. I alternate between loving to look completely eccentric, mixing all patterns and colours, and dressing in perfect student uniform and feeling proper.

Love it!…especially the sketch rendering! xogwenyth

I like my female counterparts in black. Not in a pervy way….just looks better than the usual sea of pink.

  7. It was in the 40s here and I was sweating in class. When I read you wore leggings over tights I thought you crazy!!

I love the drawing, and I love it was ‘regulation style’!
Though I told you before about my hyper-casual no-leo class, I’ve switched up now. No-one actually SAYS you must wear black leo/ pink tights but almost everyone does (blonde Best Girl pulls off pastel green).
I envy your layers though – even with temperatures in the 30s we’re all down to leo&tights by the end.
I do like the Bratek leos, but being On The Pear side my favourite is a cap-sleeved leo from Plume that makes my shoulders look wider hence the… rest… smaller. It’s a slightly older version of this one
That ruched front panel hides my secret – padded underwired cups cut from a black microfibre bra and held in purely by the tightness of the leo. Works marvellously for the small-chested.

Although do note – microfibre leo over microfibre tights (new Hold & Stretch) meant much slippage of leo upwards compared to my regular matte Bloch ones. May have to rethink that combination…
