Nicely balanced on all toes but a little lacking in muscle tone

Went to the Page Museum the other day.
One of my very favorite places in Los Angeles (animatronic ground sloth, you guys).
Check out the sweet demi-pointe on this Mammoth.

Yup, lacking some muscle! Checked out the link to the Page Mueum. Interesting to visit the next time I am in the LA area. Have you been to the William S. Hart museum?

  2. cats walk on tippy-toe, too!

That’s how horses got their hooves . . . they used to have five toes, starting walking on demi-pointe, and then decided they were so fancy they didn’t need the extra toes! 😉 Ballet in nature!

I believe the tippy-toes things is because extant elephants (and probably also extinct mammoths) have a big pad of fat under their heel (like wedge shoes…made of blubber) which helps them with supporting all that weight all day, and literally gives a spring in their step when they pick up their feet to walk.
