Toured Western Costume the other day,
And Gentle Reader, if you live in LA or are planning a trip, plan on going somewhere else because Western does not do public tours.
In your faces!
Ok but Western does open part of its collection for rental to the public during the month of October, when they do their Halloween Store, so you can totally rent something that was worn In The Movies, which is pretty cool.
Apparently up until sometime in the 1980′s one of the gowns from Gone With The Wind was up for rental. And then somebody realized what it was and was like Oh Hell to the No.
It’s possible for accidental discoveries like that to happen because Western is Huge.
Turned 100 this year.
100 years worth of movie costumes, imagine that. Imagine all the movies that includes.
I mean, just for example, a year or so ago I worked on a movie that was about the filming of a movie filmed in the 1960′s. Instead of being handed a costume sketch to drape and pattern from, we pattern makers were handed stacks of screen captures, in order to recreate the costumes from the 60′s movie. We spent a lot of time staring at the stills looking for darts and seams and looking up more stills online and joking about how the originals were probably all hanging in stock at Western, if only anyone had the time to go look.
Just wanted to share a few pictures from my super special and fancy private tour.
La la la pretty linens
La la la pretty chiffons
La la la -what?!-
Isn’t that the best print?!
It pains me!
