Some pretty threads

A friend invited me over to rummage through the sewing supplies she’d inherited from a great aunt.
Just wanted to share these Gütermann threads in ballet pinks, set on a little paper roll instead of the plastic spools they come on today.
Don’t think I’ll actually be sewing with these guys; age has made them weak but even more beautiful.

Seriously, about two days ago I took a photo of a perfect ballet pink spool of vintage rayon thread sitting on my pink dance tights! I was going to post it, but I think I missed the boat on that one!

do you ever feel guilty when you find that your thread/embroidery floss/fabric/etc gets so old or improperly stored that it fades from the edges or is so brittle that it’s unusable? i boxed some fabric in a clear box and all the folded edges are faded right in the middle and a box full of embroidery threads that are too weak to use after too much age and heat.

  Even more heartbreaking is improperly stored clothing. Like the white linen dress a friend found once in a costume storage room, with a paper safety-pinned to the front of the bodice that read, “My graduation dress, 1910″. Safety-pin had rusted right through the dress. So sad.
