Took me aaaaages to work that one out. Because I don’t have an American accent. ‘Tyulle’, thankyouverymuch.
Really? You say it like tyoool? Where are you from? This is fascinating! I was under the impression -having only costume and now ballet French- no actual French instruction, that tulle is toool and toile, as in a sample garment, is twaahl, but I could totally be wrong!
I’m from New Zealand. We have a very lazy accent and say it almost like ‘choool’. (Dressmaker-English, not in French!)
Oh right, hi Nadine!
don’t be a tool. Or as the customers used to say when I worked at a fabric shop “tool-ee”
Oh Girl, no they di’n't
my favorite was “poy dee soy”, which we got with alarming frequency.
No way! I was totally just wondering how they’d say Peau de Soie! Seriously!
I would be sorely tempted to impose some kind of You Can’t Say It, You Can’t Buy It policy. Grosgrain sales would plummet!
I’m looking for gross grain ribbing, please!
Sorry ma’am, we don’t sell that here
